Columbia Sportswear Company is a United States company that manufactures and distributes outerwear and sportswear, named for the nearby Columbia River. It was founded in 1938 by the late Paul Lamfrom, father of present chairperson Gert Boyle. Columbia Sportswear produces footwear, headgear, camping equipment, skiwear, and outerwear accessories. In 2001, it was the largest American seller of ski apparel.
Columbia's jackets feature waterproof fabric that is also breathable. Additionally, new jackets feature interchangeable shells and liners. Multiple wearing options and fabric technology fueled rapid sales growth.
Columbia is a family business that has gone global. It's made up of real people who are as passionate about the outdoors as you are. And, while their products are available around the world, they're based in the great Pacific Northwest (US), where majestic forests frame volcanic mountains and a rugged coast. This is where they hike, ride, fish, hunt, climb, camp, golf, paddle, run, and just enjoy fresh air with friends.
